Sculptra is a special type used specifically to volumize areas, not to fill the lines of individual wrinkles. It works by stimulating the body to produce new collagen at the sites of injection, thereby replacing lost volume and contours to restore a fuller, more youthful appearance.

Sculptra, however, is one of the only options on the market that works with your body to form more collagen and produce slow changes over time. It is a longer-lasting filler and also takes longer to notice results. Patients usually receive more than one injection session to accomplish optimum re-volumization.

Dr. Michaels uses topical anesthetic cream for comfort to minimize the pinprick feeling of the injections. There is a possibility of bruising, swelling and/or tenderness in the area for approximately five days. Ice will help address swelling and cosmetics can conceal bruising if necessary. Several days of rest are recommended before returning to work.
