Resurfacing

Those who have moderate to severe sun damage, acne scars or wrinkles at rest can benefit from laser resurfacing. Laser resurfacing has undergone some amazing developments over the last few years, including safer wavelengths for use, and specific delivery methods of the laser energy to more individually treat specific conditions, skin types, and severities.

Dr. Michaels prefers the Erbium Yag laser to perform his resurfacing. Risks associated with past resurfacing lasers, such as the development of porcelain white skin, have not been seen with this laser in Dr. Michaels hands. He also regularly uses the Profractional laser, a special handpiece to treat deeper conditions more safely with quicker recovery times, such as deeper acne scars.

Topical anesthetic cream is used for comfort to minimize the heat feeling of the laser. In addition, Dr. Michaels will often times use intralesional anesthesia or nerve blocks to provide the most comfortable treatment experience.

Downtime ranges from five days to two weeks depending on the extent of the procedure. It is best for patients to stay at home during the recovery period. This will be discussed during your consultation.
