JUVÉDERM™ is a hyaluronic acid gel that is injected into facial tissue to smooth wrinkles and folds, especially around the nose and mouth. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the human body. The role of hyaluronic acid in the skin is to deliver nutrients, hydrate the skin by holding in water, and to act as a cushioning agent. Juvederm has an uncanny ability to be one of the most natural feeling fillers in the face, and is best used in areas sensitive to the “feel” of a product, such as in rejuvenating the lips, or addressing dark shadows underneath the eyes. It is currently the most widely used filler nationwide.

Dr. Michaels uses topical anesthetic cream for comfort to minimize the pinprick feeling of the injections. There is a possibility of bruising, swelling and/or tenderness in the area for approximately five days. Ice will help address swelling and cosmetics can conceal bruising if necessary. You may need two days of rest for any swelling or bruising, though many patients go right back to work after the procedure.
