| Facial volume is one of the most essential features to looking youthful. It is the cherubic apple cheeks of youth and the heart shaped distribution that helps create the look of a youthful face. And, it is one of the first things lost in adulthood. While we are ingrained to believe that the path of looking better must involve face-lift surgery, surgery is unnecessary in most of the cases if our volume issues are addressed. Facial volume loss is largely a result of the genetic aging process, but affects different areas of our faces at different speeds as we grow older. Studies have shown that volume losses or gains affect every level of the facial volume architecture: the bone and teeth get resorbed, the muscle and fat shrink and descend with the time, and the skin becomes thinner and loses its elastic recoil. All of these critical elements (bone, fat, muscle and skin) are like building blocks stacked on top of one another and give us the beautiful peaks and curves of youthfulness. As the face loses volume, we start to lose our inflated, full contours of years ago. We no longer have a graduated, reflection of light on our high cheeks; rather, a choppy, sunken look to our midface. Volume loss is one of the most causes in the development of this look. Dr. Michaels customizes fillers to correct volume loss. His experience and technique allows for these injectables to be placed at just the right location in the face for the most natural results. |
